Hey. Hi. Hello! It is I, risen from the dead! Yes yes I know these last two weeks have been a bit off the mark in terms of posting, but let me tell you that it is a pretty good indication of how my life is going. I’m settling into my new job well enough (I mean it’s retail and I’ve done it before so it’s pretty easy to settle in), but the hours are going to take some time to get used to. More importantly, I gotta figure out times to workout at since the GYM IN MY APARTMENT BUILDING HAS SET HOURS…it’s a travesty I know.
Anyway, Friday was supposed to be a metal health-type post because tbqh I have some decision to make in the next month and I just have no idea where to start with that, and I’m sure some of you are in the same boat. However, I had a friend in town, and once she left I was so exhausted I could barely keep my eyelids open, let alone think about all these deep confounding thoughts. So, that post will probably be pushed to this Friday, so stay tuned for that. But on to today’s topic: the jade roller.
I mentioned in my last Makeup Monday post that this post was coming, so here it is in all it’s glory. For the past month I’ve been using a jade roller every morning. I first came across this device in a Vogue article that featured Josephine Skriver talking through her skincare routine. The first thing she used was a jade roller because she said she, “felt puffy in the morning.” Even though I don’t necessarily feel puffy in the morning, just fat, I searched Amazon and purchased one to try myself, because I live for a good gimmick.
Before I share my opinnies on it, let’s talk about what one of these things actually does. In a nutshell, the roller stimulates the lymphatic system, which is a system of tissues and organs below the skins surface that helps the body rid itself of toxins and waste, and more importantly excess water, which can cause the face to look puffy. It’s also great for a morning after excess drinker or a good junk food binge, we’ve all been there.
So how do you use this thing? Well, most rollers come with two ends, a larger end meant for the areas of the face like cheeks, forehead, jawline, and a smaller end that targets the undereye area. Experts say to leave it in the fridge over night, but I just keep it in my bathroom, which sits at 65 degrees over night so basically same thing. I use mine right in the morning when I wake up, but other people use it after they’ve applied serum/moisturizer to their face…do what you want I don’t care.
However, the one thing I do care about is that you always roll in upward and outwards motions, to push things UP and OUT of the skin instead of down into it, ya feel? There’s diagrams floating around on the “proper” way and sequence in which to roll, but I do what I want because I’m not an esthetician so I follow my own rules.
Now let’s get onto my experience with it. I started this experiment on April 14th, and today’s May 14th, so I took another picture this morning to compare. Let’s see the evidence:
The left is the before, the right is the after. Yes, the lighting is different because I’m home and I’m bougie so I have a skylight in my bathroom, but I didn’t want to do any editing in case that changed anything (also LOL that I wore the same shirt to bed, I promise I washed it in between!!)
Do I notice a difference? No. I did say before that I have never had a problem with puffiness around my face, just fatness because I love to eat. Am I going to keep using the jade roller in my routine? Yes, because it’s relaxing in the morning, but also the cold is a great way to help me wake up. Plus, it takes like 30 seconds to use it so I’m really not losing any time.
If you’re interested, here’s the link to the Jade Roller that I purchased off Amazon https://amzn.to/2KUZn7H (but try not to drop it, I’m currently on my third jade roller because I’ve dropped my other ones in the morning when half-awake). If you buy one, let me know how you get on, and if you had a different experience than I did! There’s a lot of science behind this saying it actually works, so I want to believe!!! But until next time, xoxo.
