Hey. Hi. Hello!
I hope everyone had an AMAZING Christmas! I definitely did, because my Sim got married and then saved her husband from death all within 24 hours. I don’t want to call myself a hero, but like it’s true. I also got everything I wanted, and ate myself into a cookie coma like always, so I really can’t complain.
But, now that Christmas is over, and all the holiday cookies are pretty much gone, it’s about time to start getting back into a normal routine. Or, maybe 2019 is finally the year you want to start dedicating time to really begin your fitness journey. I’ve been there. Actually, I think every January it feels like I’m starting my fitness journey over again.
It’s not always easy getting into the gym, especially if it’s been a minute since you’ve last gone. Buy yourself some new workout clothes, pin up some inspiration photos, and just set an alarm to get yourself there. That’s the hardest part. But, the other hard part is figuring out what to do. Not everyone wants to invest in a personal trainer right away (but if you do heyyy hit me up I’d love to design programs for ya wink wink nudge nudge).
My favorite way to kick off the new year and start some new habits is quickly. And by that I mean HIIT. I’ve talked about HIIT, or High Intensity Interval Training, on here a few times before. The idea revolves around picking a few excercises that are going to get your heart rate up, and doing them for a quick period of time.
There’s no right or wrong way to do HIIT. But, the easiest formula in my opinion is picking 4 calisthenic (think jumpy) exercises, set a time limit for each exericses, pick a time limit for your rest, and then repeat for 4-5 rounds. Or, you can go another route and hit sprints by chosing a time to spring and an equivalent time to rest (I love 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off for about 10 minutes. Easiest workout for super busy mornings).
HIIT is my favorite way to kick off the new year beacuse it’s quick so you’re in and out of the gym before you feel like you’re dragging your feet. Plus, you’re getting your heart rate up, so you’ll feel great and like you’re losing a little bit of that dreaded holiday weight. It’s also one of the best ways to start burning fat, which is typically what people start their fitness journeys for! I’ve listed out my three favorite HIIT circuits for the beginner, intermediate, and expert to try on New Years Day!
For the Beginners
- Jumping Jacks
- Butt Kicks
Complete each exercise for 30 – 40 seconds. 15 seconds in between. 1 minute rest between rounds. Complete 4-5 rounds.

- Jump Squats
- Push-Up to tapback
- High Knees
Complete each exercises 30 – 40 seconds. Immediately move onto next exercise. 1 minute rest between rounds. 4 – 5 rounds.
