Hey. Hi. Hello!
Isn’t it scary to think that it’s literally 2019 tomorrow?! But it also means that we’re one year closer to another Roaring 20’s. I haven’t decided on my resolutions yet, or if I’m even going to make some this year because we all know how that goes right? You stick to them for about a month before the fuck it mentality takes over and you’re just out there living your life. But, if I do make any resolutions you’ll see them here next week in an attempt to keep myself accountable!
2018 was a year. That’s just a fact. I don’t know if it was good or bad, but I think it was probably better than 2017. I wrapped up my first year of living alone in the city, attended my first college alumni weekend as an official old person, and made some friends along the way, which made my mother very happy. I also traveled A LOT and racked up JetBlue Mosaic status, FINALLY.
And, of course, I tried out a boatload of new brands, products, and random bits and bobs throughout the year. If 2018 taught me anything, it’s that I really need to get a handle on buying anything that sounds remotely cool or that matches my aesthetic. Of course, somethings naturally sucked, but other’s stood out and secured a spot in my rotation of favorites. It’s a lengthy list, I apologize to your eyeballs and your wallets.
COSRX Acne Patches
These little patches are LIFESAVING. They come in a variety of sizes to cover any sort of spot that may come at you. They work by absorbing the oil that sits within the acne without having to wait. The one downside is you can’t layer them underneath makeup because of their silicon texture.
COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch 3 pack ($11.00)
Aztec Indian Healing Clay
This was 100% the standout product of 2018 for me. Everyone was pretty much raving about this product, so I’m really hoping on the bandwagon here, but for good reason. Once you get passed the pulsing sensation and the immediate redness afterwards, it’s incredible. Definitely improved my skin texture, especially when I had excess breakouts.
Aztec Secret – Indian Healing Clay 1 lb ($10.95)
Summer Fridays Jetlag Mask
If the Aztec Clay was a standout product, this was definitely close behind, literally. Whenever I used the Aztec mask, this is what I would follow it up with to add a little extra hydration back. It’s also the ONLY product that made me feel human after a night of drinking because it magically combatted any sort of puffiness or redness.
Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask 2.25oz ($48.00)
I’ve talked about this brand so much this past year, and will definitely continue to do so in 2019. It’s the only polish that stands a chance against workouts and my retail job. It also brings so many compliments because of all the unique colors. The devil works hard, but Kathleen Lights works harder because there’s always a new collection coming out and I buy them all immediately.
KL Polish 12ml ($9.50)
Burst Sonic Toothbrush
I bought this brush 6 months ago after seeing a lady completely clean an ear of corn with it. 6 months later I had a dentist appointment where for the first time in my life they haven’t asked me about flossing because this toothbrush works miracles. It’s also a subscription service like Quip where every 3 months they’ll send you a replacement head so you don’t have to think about it.
Burst Sonic Toothbrush ($69.99 & $6.00 replacement heads)
Oui Shave Razor
This razor has sold out so many times on their website for good reason. It’s the closest shave I’ve ever experienced, as well as being better for the environment due to it being just a single razor blade instead of a replacement cartridge. I’ve had some issues bringing it through TSA outside of New York, but in checked luggage it’s fine.
Oui Shave Razor ($75.00)
Too Faced Lip Injections Extreme Gloss
I have pimped this product out to people SO HARD this year. If someone complains about dry lips, this is the product I recommend. Not everyone loves the plumping sensation that it brings, but in all fairness it only lasts about 20 seconds. Long-term it’s filled with collagen, so it’s providing extreme hydration to your lips, which has been so nice this winter.
Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme 0.14oz ($28.00)
Hourglass Arch Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel
December’s whole-ass mood was not giving a fuck, so I hardly wore makeup. But, I would run this through my brows and I swear it looked like I’d spent actual time filling them in. It’s the best dupe I’ve found for the Benefit Gimme Brow and doesn’t make me miss that thing AT ALL.
Hourglass Arch Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel 0.10oz ($28.00)
I’m a firm believer in vitamins. Not everyone is, but I believe. They make it so easy to find the right vitamins for you by having you complete a quick quiz that will then curate your packs for you. They also give you access to information about each vitamin they carry so you can understand them better and customize you pack with anything you think it may be missing.
Since I’ve added some holiday pounds, my Everlane denim hasn’t been in a frequent rotation, but they still did me well in 2018. The brand is basically a better version of J. Crew in that it’s a lot of classics that are business-friendly. However, their business model is what sets them apart. They have incredible supply chain transparency, and competitive prices, so you can feel even better about your purchases with them.
Marc Fisher LTD. Yale Chelsea Booties
Quite frankly the only boot I’ve worn during 2018. They didn’t need to be broken in, and I would wear them around New York right from the box. I wear them to work where I’m on my feet for 9 hours a day, and don’t feel ANY discomfort. The best wardrobe staple.
Marc Fisher LTD Yale Chelsea Boots ($179.00)
Colourpop Arriba Ultra Matte Lipstick
Some may say this would be a summer color, but I’ve been rocking this bitch ever since I purchased it. It’s a beautiful blue-toned red, which is as close to a true red as I’ve ever seen. Clients at work are constantly complimenting me when I wear this. If you want to feel like a bad-ass bitch, give this a try.
Colourpop Arriba Ultra Matte Lipstick 0.11oz ($6.50)
Quay Don’t @ Me Sunglasses
These sunglasses carry with them the “celebrity effect.” Whenever I wear them I get stares. They’re a flattering take on the tiny sunglasses trend, and are an added boost of confidence the second I put them on.
Quay Don’t @ Me Sunglasses ($65.00)
Dermalogica Breakout control
Lifechanging. Truly lifechanging. I started wearing this under my makeup in the summer when it was literally a billion degrees here and I didn’t break out. NOT ONCE. Well ok maybe once, but it definitely could’ve been a lot worse. It’s lightweight, layers well under all sorts of products, and I would like to be burried with this please and thanks.
Dermalogica Breakout Control 1oz ($48.00)
Slip Silk Pillowcases
I’ve tried a few different silk pillowcases this year, but really nothing holds up as well as the Slip ones. Yes, the black did lose a bit of color after the first wash, but they still look black, unlike the other ones which all turned grey. They’re amazing for your hair and skin, as it decreases any friction that can irritate these areas. Gives me salon-level hair when I wake up, even if I haven’t washed it in a minute
Slip Silk Pillowcase ($85.00 – $105.00)
Urban Decay All Nighter Pollution Protection Spray
Can I say with absolute certainty if this product is really any different than their normal All Nighter Setting Spray? No. But does it FEEL different? Yes. It doesn’t feel as tacky, and really blends all my makeup flawlessly. Plus, it’s always nice to feel as though I have some added layers to protect from the New York air.
Drybar 100 Proof Treatment Oil
This hair oil is amazing, and does NOT weigh down my hair or make it feel oily the day after. I add three pumps into my hair after getting out of the shower, and wake-up with no flyaways. It’s a miracle in a bottle.
Drybar 100 Proof Treatment Oil 3.4oz ($36.00)
Function of Beauty
For the majority of this year, I used my personalized Function of Beauty haircare routine. While I was using it, I couldn’t really say anything revolutionary about it, but I’ve noticed some serious changes since I’ve stopped using it. My hair gets greasy faster, and just overall has a different feel to it. It doesn’t make sense but you’ll understand when you buy this.
Rowenta Straight Express Flat Iron
I love nothing more than a straight high pony. This is the only flat iron that does anything for me. It has a built in comb that pulls the hair straight before the iron hits it, but not in an aggressive way. In fact, I feel less of a pull on my hair using this than I do using any other flat iron. One pass of this and my hair is straight, we love that.
Tarte Shape Tape Hydrating Foundation
I started my time with this product hating it, and then was converted to a firm believer. It has hyaluronic acid in it, so it offers some skincare benefits while you’re wearing it. I don’t like that my eyeliner never seemed to stay in place on my waterline wearing this, but I’m willing to look past that because of how great my skin felt with and without it on.
Tarte Shape Tape Hydrating Foundation 1.01oz ($39.00)
Anatasia Beverly Hills Amrezy Highlighter
What sucks about this highlighter is that it’s apparently limited edition, and always sells out. What’s amazing about it is everything else. It’s not chunky or overly glitterly. Rather, it gives you a nice wet-looking sheen across your cheekbones that is so dewey it’s almost offensive.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Amrezy Highlighter 0.31oz ($28.00)
Milk Makeup KUSH High Holume Mascara
I stan this mascara. I wore this mascara at the Patriots game that I went to and had FOUR, that’s correct FOUR, humans stop and ask me if I was wearing fake lashes. Sure, one of them was my brother, but still that’s a huge compliment that men are noticing my lashes. It’s not clumpy, it doesn’t shed throughout the day, and really just all around incredible.
Milk Makeup KUSH High Volume Mascara 0.34oz ($24.00)
Rebecca Minkoff Convertible Mini Julian Backpack
2018 was the year of backpacks. It was also the year of me trying to find a bag SO SMALL I could only fit my keys, wallet, and phone in it. The one I really want is the Chloe Faye Mini, but I only have Rebecca Minkoff money. Still, I love it. Not quite small enough, but does great on days when I just need to run out of the house and want to look casual.
What were some of your favorites for 2018? Let me know, I’d love to add some new products to the 2019 line-up!
Until Next Time!
